De zomer van 2017 stond in het teken van een bijzondere samenwerking tussen Derde Wal en Museum Het Valkhof, Nijmegen. Curator Isabelle Bisseling (1987) initieerde een werkperiode voor de Nijmeegse kunstenaar Simone Albers (1990). Isabelle signaleerde een verandering in de manier waarop Simone haar schilderijen presenteerde; niet langer áán de wand, maar tegen de wand en ín de ruimte. Ze daagde Simone daarom uit om met haar meest recente serie schilderijen: Matter of Existence een ruimtevullende installatie te maken en door experiment deze nieuwe manier van presenteren te onderzoeken.
Artist in residence
Twee weken lang was Simone Albers in de patio van Museum Het Valkhof te gast als artist in residence. Tijdens deze werkperiode maakte Simone zich vertrouwd met de eigenschappen van de ruimte. De donkere, grijs geschilderde muren en de aanwezigheid van een galm in de 8 meter hoge patio, werden onderdeel van haar experimenten. Simone maakte twee vloerschilderingen, een geluidscollage en projecteerde een uitvergroting van haar schilderij Matter of Existence (Particles) op de glazen wand van de patio.
Opening
Op 16 juli 2017 werd de tentoonstelling geopend door Jan van Laarhoven, interim directeur van Museum Het Valkhof. Opvolgend was er een artist talk tussen kunstenaar Simone Albers en curator Isabelle Bisseling en een geluidsperformance van Oscar Wyers.

The summer of 2017 was dominated by a special collaboration between Derde Wal and Museum Het Valkhof, Nijmegen. Curator Isabelle Bisseling (1987) initiated a working period for the Nijmegen artist Simone Albers (1990). Isabelle signaled a change in the way Simone presented her paintings; no longer on the wall, but against the wall and in the room. She therefore challenged Simone to make a room-filling installation with her most recent series of paintings: Matter of Existence, and to explore this new way of presenting through experimentation.
Artist in residence
For two weeks Simone Albers was a guest in the patio of Museum Het Valkhof as artist in residence. During this working period, Simone became familiar with the properties of space. The dark, gray painted walls and the presence of a reverberation in the 8 meter high patio became part of her experiments. Simone made two floor paintings, a sound collage and projected an enlargement of her painting Matter of Existence (Particles) on the glass wall of the patio.
Opening
The exhibition was opened on 16 July 2017 by Jan van Laarhoven, interim director of Museum Het Valkhof. This was followed by an artist talk between artist Simone Albers and curator Isabelle Bisseling and a sound performance by Oscar Wyers.
