Fill the Room

During the Nijmegen Kunstnacht a presentation of all projects of Fill the Room was shown.

Fill the Room
Derde Wal initiated the Fill The Room (FTR) project: an artist in residence project in which two artists and two artist duos were challenged for a month to experiment with the concept of 'space'.

A deepening arose around the question:

How can a visual artist or a curator present themselves in space, especially when the physical space is lacking?

The presence and importance of digital media in our everyday space is growing. During FTR, the website will replace the physical exhibition space and serve as a fictitious space in which the curator displays the artist's work. The developments will also be posted on online and social media.

How can a visual artist work and present in a digital/fictional space? How can an opportunity for participation be created without a physical space to share it with the public? Can a larger audience be reached by using the online possibilities? Where is the boundary between making use of the fictitious space and pure registration?

The question arises what the importance and role of a proposed physical space is, if there is a (possibly) much larger fictional space that can be visited by a larger audience. Creating and presenting in a fictional space, which is embodied by a meeting place in the digital world.

Two artists and two artist duos worked for a month with this fictitious space and how it functions within their own work. All this could be followed on the facebook page of Derde Wal and finally the exhibition is curated on the website of Derde Wal.

A presentation was shown during the Nijmegen Art Night 2016.
